Jennie Surette, Holistic Esthetician
Jennie has been practising Holistic Esthetics since 2000. After completing advanced training and certification in a number of areas including advanced skincare, makeup artistry, waxing techniques and spa management, she received her Master Cosmetologist in Esthetics Certificate in 2007.
Afterglow Spa first opened its door in 2006 in her home on Main street in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. In the summer of 2008 she relocated to Collins Street Wellness Centre, also in Yarmouth, where she practises alongside Registered Massage Therapists.
In 2009 Jennie was named Youth Entrepreneur of the Year by the Yarmouth and Area Chamber of Commerce. This award recognizes an entrepreneur under 30 years of age that has demonstrated excellence in business. This person has started their own company and has shown creativity in growing their business.
In 2011 Afterglow Spa was nominated for the Environmental Service Award which recognizes an individual or business that has demonstrated outstanding dedication and involvement in and accomplishment of environmental goals. In addition to making sound design and construction decisions (installing an efficient in-floor heating system underneath sustainable bamboo flooring and energy efficient lighting) Jennie follows many sustainable daily practices (she uses and sells products that are organic, natural or vegan; her core product lines are Canadian-made; she started a refill program for clients; cleaning products are eco-friendly; old linens and towels are donated to local animal shelters, among others).
